The Issue: Unusual Weather

Lately, we have been experiencing some unusual weather which for me poses a question. Is there really unusual weather? Weather is weather and can change almost in a heartbeat. I am also told that there is a difference between weather and climate. Confused? So am I, to some to degree, but that confusion quickly dissipates when I see the storms brewing in the sky above me, and in an hour or less, the sun is shining and the sky is a beautiful blue again.

Maybe, it is weather that also brings a measure of humility for some knowing that no one has the power to control it (at least not us humans). As gentle or terrifying as weather may be, it also demands our respect. I really like that fact when at times, there seems so little around us that seemingly does not get or deserve our respect.

Weather also brings with it a mixed bag of emotions, too. When a storm is over, the fragrance of the rain fills the air, and there is a beautiful rainbow on the horizon: certainly a reminder that the weather is something that none of us can control. Amazingly, we have come to understand more about the weather, but I do not believe that any of us are any closer to controlling it. And maybe, just maybe, weather was created just for that main purpose: an entity that can not be controlled by us.
