Fort Youth Receives Scholarship
A Fort Saskatchewan youth is one of only eight recipients of a prestigious scholarship that will see him earn a “global educational experience.”
Lawson Gillespie, who is a member of the Fort Saskatchewan Community Band, and a Chief Petty Officer Second Class in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, will be ocean-bound after winning a scholarship to the Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific in Victoria, BC.
The scholarships, valued at $70,000 each, cover tuition and accommodation for two years at one of the 13 United World Colleges. In addition to Mr. Gillespie, seven other Albertan youth were awarded the Grant Mac Ewan United World College Scholarship. Recipients are selected based on academic performance, leadership, volunteerism and citizenship
“They are our future leaders and an inspiration to Albertans as we grow our knowledge-inspired economy and look to promote our province globally” said Stephen Khan, Minister of Enterprise and Advanced Education.
