Council Receives Transit Study

June 15, 2012
By

A draft report on Fort Saskatchewan’s transit service was presented to City Council at Tuesday night’s regular Council meeting. The Transit Study, started in October 2011, examined existing transit services and explored the feasibility of new routing options, new fare structures, possible enhanced local or commuter service as well as revenue and expenditure implications of these options. The full report is available on the City’s website.

The draft report concludes that existing commuter service is somewhat under-utilized and performing below industry standards. Consultant Dennis Fletcher from Genivar gave Council a full presentation and recommended a phased approach to future transit development, including minor improvements to commuter service in this budget cycle, more substantial improvements in the next budget cycle, an future implementation of local service. Council will consider approving the report on July 10.
