Legacy Park Festival a Success
The 2012 Legacy Park Family Festival was a huge success and attracted between 1,500 and 2,000 people this year. Mother Nature behaved… and only 2 or 3 drops of rain were felt.
This year’s festival saw 25 community groups and organizations participate in the event! It really is an event that brings the community together and Fort Saskatchewan residents were out in full force. Many a child bounced in the inflatables, had their face painted ran through an obstacle course, played with the animals in the petting zoo, made crafts and watched the local entertainment on the stage… among many other things.Apparently people were hungry because the Boys Scouts sold about 300 hamburgers and 300 cupcakes were decorated compliments of the Public Library!
The bird houses that the Fish and Game Association helped kids build, at no charge, were a favourite as always! Almost 200 bird houses were built.
The Legacy Park 5K Fun Run/Walk was also very successful with a record number of entries. The top 3 male finishers were Neil Sodownik at 19.11, Derren Erickson at 21.15 and Rick Moore at 21.48. The top three female finishers were Christina Lautner at 22.03, Cheryl Kabarchuk at 22.51 and Sherri McPherson at 23.04.
“A special shout out to all the sponsors and volunteers that made this year’s Legacy Park Family Festival and Fun Run/Walk possible! We could not have done it without you!” – Leisa Lamoureux, Legacy Park Family Festival Committee.
