A Song About a Woman’s Love for Potato Chips

February 14, 2012
By

CBC Edmonton’s award-winning sketch comedy program The Irrelevant Show is recording an evening of all-new comedy sketches and songs, Thursday, February 23 at 7:30 pm at Dow Centennial Centre’s Shell Theatre in Fort Saskatchewan.

The show is all over the comedy map, from the everyday to the surreal. You’ll hear scenes about family life, dating, relationships and the workplace. Hilarious sketches such as a family terrorized by the eating and sleeping machine that is their 14-year old son, and James Bond meeting an old nemesis at a seniors’ home. Plus, a song about a woman’s secret, passionate love of potato chips, an awkward conversation between Luke and Leia about that one time they kissed, and even a sketch where Stuart McLean reads ransom notes.

“We offer something for every comedy taste,” says producer Peter Brown, “there are so many styles and points of view, that the show completely changes subject and tone from one sketch to the next. At tapings, when I ask audience members which sketch was their favourite, I often get ten different answers.”

The Irrelevant Show is back for its third season on the Radio One network, and once again, live tapings have become hot ticket items in the Edmonton area.

“The live recordings are a fantastic experience,” Brown says. “The actors are performing the sketches for a live audience for the first time; the crowd gets to see sound effects and music created right in front of them: suddenly the whole show comes to life right before your eyes. The energy is amazing, and when the show gets on a roll there’s nothing like it.”

The show airs Saturday mornings at 11 on CBC Radio 1. You can download episodes and sketches for free at www.cbc.ca/irrelevantshow or iTunes. Tickets for The Irrelevant Show’s 7:30 pm performance in Fort Saskatchewan on February 23 are $20.00 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 780.992.6400.
